When our son was born, there were some physical issues and we were immediately confronted with the accusation that we had done something wrong. God must be punishing us, which was the vibe we received from people. Fortunately, God cut that off quickly when He told my wife that this was done for His glory. While it was evil, God would make it for His good.
But I was still subject to introspection and self-condemnation. I was raised in a religious atmosphere where self-condemnation was prevalent and hung on after I was saved. A revelation of Romans 8:1 finally turned my world upside down when the Lord confronted me with this passage. "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Interestingly, this was Paul's conclusion after he said there was nothing good in himself, that is, in his flesh, in Romans 7:18. My conclusion was often much different than Paul's. I tended to go into a tailspin whenever I saw my flesh, but God wanted to train me to think like Paul through all my experiences so I would learn to refuse self-condemnation altogether.
