4-Repentance

    Repentance is an essential part of a walk with God. But being very religious, it was often not very productive for me because I thought of it as beating myself up. In the Middle Ages, religious leaders often prescribed self-mutilation for gaining God’s forgiveness. For example, people used to crawl up the rugged stone stairs of the church as part of their penance. The bloodier they got, the deeper their repentance. Undoubtedly, the Lord would grant them repentance, right?
