Incarceration NAC-81

You may wonder, "Why are you writing about such a terribly negative topic??? Are you that hard up for articles, Dean????" I am not hard up for topics with several other articles in the draft stage as we speak. But, hopefully, this article will challenge your thinking and perhaps create a paradigm shift for you.

Let's face it. Our prison system in America needs an overhaul. The United States has only 5% of the world's population, yet we have 25% of the prison population, and we say, "We are a free country." We spend more on our criminals than our school kids. Where our school systems fail, our prison system makes up for it by training criminals to improve their trade. The recidivism (prison return) rate for those incarcerated in America is 76% of all released from prison. In Norway, the recidivism rate is only 20%. There are only 4,000 prisoners or 75 per 100,000 inhabitants in Norway compared to a rate of 707 per 100,000 inhabitants here in America.
