Maybe it is time to take a step back, do a little soul-searching, and learn something from the Scandinavians about happiness. For the past several years, the Scandinavians have dominated the Happiness Index. Finland has consistently secured the top spot, with Norway placing 7th. All of the Scandinavian countries (Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland) consistently dominate the Index, with the Netherlands, Costa Rica, and Luxembourg also making the list. For me, the real surprises were Israel and Mexico. But where is the United States? It has been slipping consistently for the last 15 years and is now at 24th. Not only has the United States dropped, but other wealthy nations such as Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Switzerland have noticeably slipped, too.
