How Did We Get Our Last Name? NAC-3

Have you ever wondered how we got our last names? In America, families had a fixed last name (surname) from the beginning of our country. For example, my wife’s family name was Cook. Their last name was Cook when they arrived on Long Island, New York in 1640. Every person born into that family had the last name Cook through the centuries whether they lived in New York, Michigan, or California.
