In September 2017, I wrote an article on Norway's famous stave churches, primarily built in the post-Viking age between the 10th and 14th centuries after Christianity became the state church of Norway. Of the 2,000 original churches, quite amazingly, 27 still remain, surviving the harsh Norwegian winters, fires, and natural deterioration.
