Tribute to Mothers NAC-17

In America, the second Sunday in May is Mother’s Day. Therefore, I thought it fitting to write a tribute to my mother that could apply to my wife and many mothers in America and Norway.

Physically my mother was a beautiful woman, but as she grew older, she became conscious of her big ears. Like muscles, she always exercised them to listen when we were young. She never missed a thing with those ears. I would not call it eavesdropping though she had an insatiable curiosity. In addition to those ears, she had watchful eyes, ensuring her children were always out of harm’s way. Mothers tend to do that. They develop these senses that others do not have and often do not value. My mother cultivated these senses and knew when we needed a sympathetic ear or some much-needed counsel or encouragement. Yes, she may not have exercised the rest of her body as she should have, but she gave those ears a good workout.
