A Mother's Prayer NAC-67

In America, Mother's Day is always the second Sunday in May, and I thought it would be only fitting to talk about my mother, who would have been 98 this month. My mom, Bernice Haakinson, was born on May 10, 1918, on a farm near Radcliffe, Iowa. She was the youngest child of Norwegian immigrants. Her dad had come to America as a nineteen-year-old with friends. Seventeen years later, he returned to Norway to find a bride. He, therefore, had acquired some English, but her mom spoke no English. When she entered school, Mom knew no English. Her older sister, Agnes, warned her not to open her mouth when she went to school, or everyone would think she was stupid for only speaking Norwegian.
