Anti-Rent War in Rensselaer County, New York MCF-70

I am always amazed at the great American experiment with democracy and personal freedoms guaranteed by the US Constitution, which was and continues to be so revolutionary in inception and evolution. The world had never seen a people willing to put such principles into practice. But there have been a lot of bumps in the road. Thomas Jefferson said, "I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical world." I was shocked when I learned that Jefferson's belief manifested itself in nearly 100 different incidents of civil unrest from 1790 to 1900 alone. There were even more in the 20th century, mostly due to increased communications and news reporting. These included riots regarding taxes, slavery, war protests, military drafts, racial unrest, anti-immigrant sentiments, boundary disputes, food, women's rights, anti-Catholic, labor unrest, temperance, government corruption, and even a police riot. Yet, these "little rebellions" never resulted in the violent overthrow of our government that has thwarted the stability of so many nations on the earth. Instead, we have cherished the peaceful transitions from one administration to another. Hopefully, this will continue in the future.
