Brian Pendleton MCF-26

Writer: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

The Brian Pendleton Story really begins with his great-grandfather, Thomas Pendleton, who was born in Manchester, England. The family was well-established in Manchester for perhaps centuries and had become very wealthy and influential.

Thomas's brother, Dr. Henry Pendleton, was an Oxford University graduate and one of the most famous churchmen of his time. Henry was ordained as a priest at Chester in 1544. During the reign of Henry VIII, he was famous for his oratories against Lutheranism. However, when Edward VI became king, he adopted Protestant views and became a proponent of the Reformation. He was one of the first itinerant preachers to preach these new doctrines to the "ignorant and popish parts of the country."
