Gregory Stone was born about 1592 in Great Bromley, Essex County, England. Great Bromley is a village located six miles east of Colchester, near the coast of southeastern England. He was baptized on April 19, 1592. He was the youngest of eleven children of David and Ursula Stone. David was a yeoman whose family had resided in the Great Bromley area for at least three centuries.
