Henry Wolcott MCF-33

Writer: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

The Wolcott family originated in the tiny villages of Tolland and Lydeard St. Lawrence in Somerset, England, seven and nine miles northwest of Taunton. St. John the Baptist parish church is located in Tolland. Its cemetery is supposed to include gravestones for John and Joan Wolcott, who were the parents of Henry Wolcott, who immigrated to America. When his brother died, Henry Wolcott inherited properties known now as the Watersmeet Farm in Lydeard St Lawrence, where Henry is supposed to have been born on December 6, 1578. The Watersmeet Farm currently provides facilities for campers. The farm was located in the Gauldon Manor, but the Wolcotts did not ever own the manor itself.
