How First Names Were Selected in 1800s in Norway NAC-16

In America, parents have had many choices in selecting their children’s first names. Often it is based on what happens to be popular at the time. Most names that were popular when I was young are very uncommon today. Perhaps fifty to a hundred years later, those names may be resurgent. Some new parents in America may choose a family name. For example, sons are named after their fathers such as William Smith, Jr. or William Smith III, but it is more an exception than the rule.
