John Fay MCF-15

Writer's picture: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

John Fay was born in England in probably about 1648. We do not know who his parents were, but his father could have been David Fay of Penton Mewsey, Hampshire, England. Penton Mewsey is a village of 400 people north of Southampton and west of Andover.

We believe the Fays were descendants of French immigrants to Wales who later settled in England. Their name may have come from the French meaning a grove of beech trees. Fay may be a shortened version of Lafayette; however, there is no familial tie to the famous Marquis de Lafayette, who assisted George Washington in the American Revolution.
