Writer's picture: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

The story of the first Parmenter immigrant begins over a century earlier when George Parmenter, son of Guillaume Parmenter, moved to England from Dieppe, Siene-Maritime, Haute-Normandie, France. Today, Dieppe is a town of about 30,000 on the English Channel about 65 miles northeast of Le Havre, where the Allied invasion of Normandy occurred during World War II. Its most notable structure is its castle, the Château de Dieppe, built in 1188, destroyed in 1195, and rebuilt in the 14th century. Today it is a museum.
