Piracy has existed since man first built boats and continues to be a problem even to this day. We know that during the Viking Age, our ancestors were pirates who raided and pillaged England, France, and the rest of Europe, but once Christianity came to Scandinavia, Viking piracy ceased, or did it? During the Viking Age, there were no centralized powers in Europe. The Roman Empire had disintegrated. There were wealthy, independent market towns with castles and overloads, but they fought against each other rather than working together to combat these marauders. This made them vulnerable and an easy pick for raiders like the Vikings.
