In the previous article, I described Nathan Parmater's life as a county doctor in Gaylord, Michigan. The life events that probably inspired him to become a doctor were his days as a Union soldier in the Civil War. His education was cut short by the War, and, at the first call for volunteers, he enlisted in Company E of the 29th Ohio Infantry at 25 and was sworn in on September 27, 1861
