Ring Family Part 1 MCF-73

Writer's picture: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

The earliest American Ring family immigrant was Robert Ring. He was born in 1614, probably in Marlborough, England. He was probably the son of William or Richard and Elizabeth (Shropshire) Ring. Richard Ring was a maltster who would have made and/or sold ale. Marlborough is a small town in Wiltshire in southwest England. It is most noted as a place where William the Conqueror built a motte-an-bailey castle in 1067. These types of castles were made of wood or stone on a rise in the ground, surrounded by a protective ditch or palisade. The castle would become a royal residence. At the time, they were a formidable form of protection and continued to be used until the 13th century.
