Lodowick OpDenDyck's son was yet another Gysbert (later called Gilbert). He was born in Wesel, baptized there on September 25, 1605, and fled to Holland with his parents. He came to New Amsterdam (New York City) from Holland in 1635 and became an agent of the Dutch West Indies Company. He settled in Lloyd's Harbor on the east side of Oyster Bay on Long Island. He married an Englishwoman named Catherine Smith on September 24, 1643. It should be noted that England would wrestle New Amsterdam away from the Dutch during his lifetime, which put Gysbert and Catherine in a difficult position because they were a mixed marriage with their nations in conflict with each other.
