Like several Cook family ancestors, it is believed the Bingham ancestors came to England as part of the Norman invasion in 1066, the last time England was successfully conquered. The name meant the home of the Bings/Byngs. Early English estates were sometimes named de Bingham, indicating French origin, which would support that they came with the Normans. But there were also Byngs in Denmark, implying their Norman ancestors may have originated from Viking Denmark.
