James Badcock/Babcock was born in 1612, perhaps in or near Wivenhoe, but most likely, in the County of Essex, England. Nothing has been found to substantiate the location of his birth, but perhaps family traditions. So it is a much-debated topic, which we will not indulge ourselves here. If Wivenhoe were the site of his birth, it is about three miles southeast of Colchester at the mouth of River Colne in southeast England. He pleaded over 70 cases before the Supreme Court and is one of the few attorneys to present court cases in both the United States and England.
