The Maine Family MCF-32

James Badcock/Babcock was born in 1612, perhaps in or near Wivenhoe, but most likely, in the County of Essex, England. Nothing has been found to substantiate the location of his birth, but perhaps family traditions. So it is a much-debated topic, which we will not indulge ourselves here. If Wivenhoe were the site of his birth, it is about three miles southeast of Colchester at the mouth of River Colne in southeast England. Now an art colony, Wivenhoe is a village of about 7,000 people. Despite its size, it has been the home of some notable persons, including Joan Hickson, who provided the best portrayal of Miss Marple if you are an Agatha Christie fan. (At least, that is my opinion.) It was also the home of Louis Claiborne, U.S. Deputy Solicitor General, and was considered the foremost advocate for environmental causes in its formative stages. He pleaded over 70 cases before the Supreme Court and is one of the few attorneys to present court cases in both the United States and England.
