Family secrets. Scandals and skeletons in closets. Outlaws and in-laws. When researching family history, you never know what you might uncover when digging around ancient history. I understand that the bible disclosed the humanity of the saints so that we could learn from their mistakes. The dilemma is that the family historian is not God. Who is righteous enough to judge? Family historians have to decide whether the past should remain in the graves where we have placed our ancestors or will their stories give us greater insight into who we are as a family and as individuals and, at the same time, understand those who were affected most by their transgressions.
