All Whites Are Not Alike NAC-23

Writer's picture: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

Contrary to what my dear friends of African, Asian, and Hispanic descent may think, whites are not all alike. You cannot call an Irishman English any more than calling a Cuban or Puerto Rican, a Mexican, a Filipino, Chinese, or vice versa. Recently, I learned that you dare not call a Romanian, a Hungarian, or an Argentinean Brazilian. Likewise, no one wants to be mistaken for an Italian American, except, of course, an Italian American. And they will let you know it with great pride. So it should be quite understandable when a Norwegian does not want to be mistaken for a Swede. There is a big difference between a Norwegian and a Swede. At least, that was what my Aunt Agnes always told me, although you may have to be a Norwegian to know or appreciate the difference. I used to say that I could spot a Swede a mile away, and after thirty years of laughing at me, my non-Norwegian wife suddenly began to tell the difference too.
