I never met my father-in-law, Carl Richard Miller, who passed away several years before I entered the picture. Perhaps anyone marrying his little princess might have made it difficult for him to accept. What I know about him is what Dawn, my wife, has told me so many times. In fact, I have asked her to assist me in writing his story.

Carl was born on January 3, 1912, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan. He was the oldest son of Loren and Ella (Fay) Miller. There were four older sisters, and he probably had to be tough for that reason, along with four younger brothers and two younger daughters. His father was already 38 years old when he was born. To put things in perspective, he would have known his grandfather, Amos Miller, a Civil War veteran.
