This is a story of religious freedom, a hard-fought battle in the early days of this nation. Because of these early battles, we have enjoyed centuries of religious freedom, but it was a difficult objective to achieve. Even though it is guaranteed in this nation, intolerance associated with one’s beliefs remains integral to the human psyche. When the Declaration of Independence stated that we were endowed with certain inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, it did not guarantee that we would obtain them. Samuel and Tacy Hubbard were a brave couple who we can thank for establishing the foundation for religious freedom.
