The Prince Family MCF-67

Writer's picture: Nelson HusebyNelson Huseby

The written records of the Prince Family go back to the 1400s in Oxfordshire, England. Even though its name implies royalty, in the Middle Ages, the Prince surname more likely referred to the first or chief and often an earl.

The earliest ancestor of the Prince family was Adam Prince, the 13th great-grandfather of my wife on the Cook side of the family. He was born in 1455 in Nuneham, Courtenay, England, a tiny village south of Oxford. He was married to Isabella Hunt, reportedly the heiress and daughter of John Hunt and Johanna Bentall. Still, I don’t have any more information about her or her family, except the Bentall family records go back several generations.
